What do I do before the service starts?
On Sunday morning the church is filled with rows of comfortable pews (long benches). There are no reserved seats, you may sit anywhere. Each pew has a book rack with hymnals (song books). As you enter, you will receive a copy of the Worship Bulletin that gives you information on the activities at Memorial Lutheran Church and shows the order of the things in the day's service. If you arrive after a service has started, an usher will help you find a place to sit at the appropriate time.
What is the worship like?
Services last about 75 minutes. Click on the “Worship” link for a more detailed description of the services. Memorial Lutheran Church uses a traditional worship form.
How are guests greeted?
As you arrive, our greeters and other members may recognize you as a guest and extend a friendly greeting. As a visitor, you will not be asked to stand, raise your hand or otherwise identify yourself. You do not even have to register or sign your name to anything if you do not wish to; however, we would like to know you were our guest. Each pew has a guest register in it for you to fill in the information you would like to share, as well as a section for you to write about any needs or prayer requests you may have.
How will I know when to stand?
The pastor or the worship leader will ask the congregation to stand or sit. The worship bulletin always includes information about when to stand and sit. You are welcome to remain seated, if you need to, at anytime you wish.
What is the preaching like?
Our pastors present talks that are solidly grounded in the teaching of the Holy Scripture, lasting 15-20 minutes. You can listen to past sermons by clicking on the "Worship" link, and then the "Sermons" link.
Do you have a cry room available?
No, but if you have a baby who is not comfortable, we would like you to check out our nursery facilities. You are also welcome to take a fussy child into the lobby of the church. We provide staff to assist you.
Do I need to donate money when I visit?
While Memorial Lutheran Church teaches that God loves a cheerful giver, our guests are not expected to give anything.
What groups, Bible Study or Sunday School classes are offered?
Memorial Lutheran Church has many groups within our church. We encourage people to check out our Bible Study Groups on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in order to get to know people of this church. Greeters can explain the classes available, escort you to the correct room and introduce you to someone in the class. We’re looking forward to getting to know you when you visit. |
