Adult Instruction: It's Not Too Late To Join
It's not too late to join the Adult Instruction Class. Pastor Murray will be teaching the Adult Instruction Class from 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM in the church library. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Murray at firstname.lastname@example.org. You're welcome to join!
The summer is over and the school year is now in full swing! Our students at Memorial Lutheran School have been on campus for more than two weeks. On Sunday, 7 September, we begin the new Sunday school year. Instructing young people in the Faith is both a great privilege and responsibility. It is one of the most important things we are about as a congregation. Many, many thanks to all the teachers and staff who serve at Memorial Lutheran School and Memorial Lutheran Church's Sunday school. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Replacement of Paraments
We are seeking to replace all of our paraments starting with our Advent Paraments this fall. Our paraments are starting to show their age. In particular, our Advent paraments are currently blue and we are replacing them with the more traditional violet paraments. We hope to order the Advent paraments by the end of September 2014 as they require about 8 weeks to be made and Advent will be here before we know it. Our goal is $8,000 to replace the full Advent set of chasuble, stoles, altar paraments, the veil, the burse, and 2 banners. If you can help with reaching our goal, please write your checks to MLC with the memo line "Advent Paraments" or if you have any questions, please contact Martha Fredenburg at:

Because You Asked
Nina Skinner also asked why I (Pr. Murray) went to Sweden 4-11 August. As chair of the Luther Academy USA, an organization committed to spreading confessional Lutheran teaching worldwide, I was invited to deliver a paper to a conference of the North European Luther Academy (NELA) in Gothenburg, Sweden 4-7 August. The topic of the conference was "Lutheranism: Between Pietism and Orthodoxy." The conference was well attended and my paper was politely received. I also spent time encouraging Lutheran pastors who are being persecuted for being faithful. Many people expressed appreciation for the work that Luther Academy USA and that Memorial Lutheran Church, Houston are doing. They are glad to know that there are faithful Lutheran partners here in the United States. Sweden was beautiful and I enjoyed my time with my host, Pastor Fredrik Sidenvall of Gothenburg.
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.
