Memorial Lutheran Church & School

4th Grade

There are many different and interesting things we learn in Fourth grade. This is a transition year for many children, where we start learning to be responsible for the things that we do. My favorite phrase in the classroom is “Let the choices you make today, be choices you can live with tomorrow”.

One of the different things we do in Fourth grade is Current Events. We begin every morning discussing things that are happening all around us. The kids are responsible for showing where events are happening, as well as telling the class all the information about the article they have brought to class. This teaches the students not only comprehension skills, but geography and public speaking, as well as listening skills.

We also will be reading through many different novels in class, from a Jewish girl’s experience with the Nazi’s to a boy who has “Chocolate Fever.” I also will be reading to the students about Alien Teacher’s and a group of sixth graders’ experiences at a new school. We want to know that Reading is a FUN thing in life and can take you to many different places.

Math is my favorite subject and I have many different ways of helping the kids learn the many ways of doing this subject. I love to teach the kids how to make Math easy in everyday problems. It is truly a joy to watch them grow.

I love all of the other subjects as well but you will just have to get the ideas from your children as they come and enjoy the great experience of being in the Fourth Grade!!!
Thanks be to God for the gift of this Lutheran School to share the Gospel of God in every subject of the day!!!!!
